Creating a Virtual Port for a USB Printer

USB Printer set to LPT1

For user who have an USB printer that is not compatible with their current version, they will need to create a virtual LPT1 port for the printer to use. If you are unsure of the correct plan of action or how to complete this, please contact Support. 

Install printer drivers, and run a test page

Enable printer sharing and note the shared name down
Go to control panel> Printers and Faxes> Printer Properties> Sharing, check:just enable printer sharing, Share this printer. Copy share name. Ok

Get Computer name
right click my computer go to properties, computer name/ control panel>system

you will need both the printer name and computer for the nest step

Open CMD prompt and copy in code

NET USE LPT1 //(COMPUTER NAME)(shared printer name)/persistent:yes
Hit Enter
verify that the script has saved successfully.

exit

Test cash drawer and printer

Remember to set Hardware settings back to default LPT1 for printer

Turning off a USB port's power save option on Windows XP Pro

In Windows, click on Start > Control Panel (or Start > Settings > Control Panel).

Double-click on System, then open the Hardware tab.

Click Device Manager.

Click the + at Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Right-click USB Root Hub and select Properties.

Open the Power Management tab.

Clear the checkmark from Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Click OK.

Repeat this procedure for the USB 2.0 Hub.
